What we do?
We are not an agency and do not charge commission from artists work. We ensure that people know where to look for a professional and provide the contact between yourselves and the client. Our directory attracts customers looking to search in one place for their needs. At the touch of a button they can look for a professional in the area or category they want and view your private webpage directly on our site. The stronger your page the more you will appeal to customers.
By networking we gather links and can reach more clients than stand alone sites.
What do you get by joining?

What makes the site special?
The site is owned and run by Nicola Richards (Née Man sell) a Bafta and Emmy Award winning Make-Up Artist and Hairdresser with over 10 years experience in working as a freelance artist and who knows how difficult it is to always have a full diary.
Nicola has worked in all aspects of Film, TV, commercials, weddings, face painting, special effects as well as hair extensions and is listed on the site. All her products available are individually sourced and tested by herself so you can ensure that they are of the highest quality.
Nicola says
“Filling your diary is always hard work and getting your name out there is a big part of it. Having your own website can be very expensive and is not always suitable for an individual, as you have to do a lot of maintenance in order to climb up the search engines ratings in order to be seen on the first few pages.
As a member of The Make-up foundation Directory you will not only gain valuable work, but save a huge amount on advertising, marketing and website costs, not to mention your own valuable time!
Leaving you free to concentrate on your Freelance Hair and Make-up career.”
How does it work?
The Make-up Foundation directory allows you to create you own private page advertsing your skills. We then do all the advertising and PR for the site to drive potential customers to your personal page. Presently we offer this service for FREE just register to join upload your profile and your picture gallery and the directory can work for you.
What do you require?
- You must be professionally trained and competent in all areas that you would like to be listed. (A copy of you training certificate may be required.)
- Photographic images of your work, preferably digital although we can scan and add images manually should you require.
- CV/ Profile of experience.
- Testimonials from clients. (Not essential)
- Public liability Insurance certificate or similar.
- Email address/Contact details. (It is essential you have an email address. We can provide one for you if needed).
If I already have a website would I still need to be listed?
The answer is YES
Having your own website is a great start but it is almost always a stand alone site. If you are not part of a network you are unlikely to be found easily especially if you work under an obscure name.
Our directory ensures that you can be found easily and if you have a link to your own site you can drive traffic to your own pages increasing your profile on search engines.
What do we charge for jobs we receive through your site?
You charge your normal going rates. We do not control or recommend prices that artists should charge as every job and individual are different. You are free to price a job as you would do normally. The contract is between yourself and the client and we take no commission.
What do we do if we have to cancel a client?
The contract is between yourself and the client as usual but if you would like The Make-Up Foundation to try and find a replacement artist for you just give us a call and we can try and recommend an artist who may be able to take over the client for you. It would then be at the client’s discretion whether they would like to consider using the other artist.
What else can we do for you?
Whilst you are a listed member of The Make-Up Foundation Directory you are welcome to promote you’re listing by using our logo and the words “Listed on The Make-Up Foundation Directory” for as long as you are a paying member. Our logo and words can be added to promotional literature, adverts and even your own TMF business card should you wish to order some*.
Can you cancel your membership if you change your mind?
Yes you can cancel your registration at any time just email or call to ask us to remove you listing. It will then be removed from the site within 24 hours.
Please remember that it does take time to build up a web presence. Once you have built up your URL through The Make-Up Foundation Directory, access links will drive traffic to your page. The longer you are listed the higher you will climb. If you decide to give this up to early someone else may benefit from the links
Do I need to know about websites?
No you don’t need to know how the site works. All you need to do is know your web link which we will email you on joining and have access to email to pick up your work enquiries.
You just need to supply the information to create your page.
Will the service always be FREE ?
At the moment The Make-Up Foundation is offering registration and listing for FREE. We reserve the right to introduce to fee at a later date but members will be fully informed if a fee is to be introduced and they will be given the option to continue to list their page.
